My Top 10 Players of the 2017 (Part 1 of 2, 10-6)

Hi, today I am starting my yearly top 10 players of the year list. This is my 3rd year in a row doing it and I decide which players I think had the 10 best seasons. My no. 1 last season was Tom Brady, will he repeat? Today you will find out number 10 through 6. We will have a part 2 very soon for the top 5. Here it is:

10. Nick Foles, QB, Eagles
(PLAYOFF) Statline: 971 yards, 6 TDs, 1 INT passing
Okay okay I know he was only in the playoffs and he didn't play pretty much all season and in his games in the regular season he wasn't great but Foles was insane in the playoffs. He rose from a bad backup into the best starting QB in the playoffs. He took down the heavily favored Patriots in an insane Super Bowl that featured the most total yards by 2 teams combined in one game EVER. Not just playoffs but also counting regular season! Foles in the Super Bowl threw for 373 yards, 3 TDs, and an interception passing and logged a goal line TD catch on an insane fake that will live in Super Bowl history forever. Foles added the Super Bowl 52 MVP trophy to his mediocre career resume which is something some Hall of Famers can't even say they did. Foles lead the Eagles to one of the most magical out of nowhere playoffs in NFL history and so he buys himself a spot on the big list.
NO. 10 LAST YEAR: JANORIS JENKINS, CB, GIANTS

9. Deshaun Watson, QB, Texans
Statline: 1699 yards, 19 TDs, 8 INTs passing, 269 yards, 2 TDs rushing
To some people, another iffy selection for my big list but Watson was absolutely insane before his midseason ACL tear. The Texans were cruising and Watson was in the drivers seat for ROY and possibly MVP. He had already thrown for 1700 yards and almost 20 TDs before midseason. Watson before the injury was Offensive player of the month and offensive rookie of the month. He had a mind blowing to the wire loss against the Patriots where the young legend almost out dueled Tom Brady and then marched into one of the toughest stadiums against the Seahawks and gave them a run for their money before losing in the very end in what might have been the game of the year. Watson broke multiple records before getting hurt and already looks like he could be the future Tom Brady of the NFL. Some of the records include: Most TD passes in a QBs first 7 career games, Most passing TDs in a 5 game span by a rookie, first player to throw for 400+ yards 4+ TD passes and 50+ rushing yards in one game. There were more records but I feel like that was enough to give you the taste. Watson was a beast. I wonder just HOW good he could have been if he played all season. Because of Watson, the Texans are super bowl contenders this year.
NO. 9 LAST YEAR: JULIO JONES, WR, FALCONS

8. Darius Slay, CB, Lions
Statline: 26 passes defended, 8 INTs, 1 fumble recovery
Slay was the best defensive player in my opinion of 2017. Just look at his stats. You could not get past this man if you were a receiver. He lead the NFL in the 2 most important stats for a cornerback. Passes defended and interceptions. It was by far the best season yet of Slay's career. After a decent start to his career, Slay burst onto the scene as a top 5 CB in the league this season. These stats really don't lie. If you look at the Lions schedule you can see some of the tough receivers Slay was covering. Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham, Julio Jones. The best 3 receivers in the league, Slay covered all of them. Some other names include Adam Thielen, Michael Thomas, AJ Green, Mike Evans. Slay put up some numbers we haven't see by just 1 player in so long and in my opinion Slay is still being underrated after the great season he just put up. I don't think Slay is a one and done type of the player either. I think he is here to stick and stay.
NO. 8 LAST YEAR: DEREK CARR, QB, RAIDERS

7. Alvin Kamara, RB, Saints
Statline: 728 yards, 8 TDs rushing, 826 yards, 5 TDs receiving
The ultimate dual threat RB, Alvin Kamara BURSTED onto the scene in year 1 adding an explosive weapon to an already powerful Saints offense. The Saints with Kamara just couldn't be stopped at times. I thought the Saints were going to all the way with their rebooted defense and the Drew Brees/Alvin Kamara/Michael Thomas machine on offense. Kamara started the season off slow. A 3rd round pick entrenched deep in the depth chart behind proven starter Mark Ingram and future hall of famer Adrian Peterson. After the first 4 weeks of the season and Adrian Peterson was traded Kamara got playtime and heated up. After he heated up he couldn't be stopped. Still behind Ingram, Kamara was getting a ton of carries along with reception after reception. When he touched the ball, anything could happen. Kamara bursted away on a 70+ yard TD against the red hot Rams in their own stadium to take a win. Kamara finished the season with 1600+ total yards and 13 total TDs. He also ran away with the offensive rookie of the year award. Literally whenever Kamara got the ball he would turn a 3 yard dump off passes into a bunch of jukes and a 25 yard gain. I am very excited to see what Kamara can do in year 2 and if he can even up himself on the top 10 players list next year! As a rookie to make my top 10 list, thats impressive.
NO. 7 LAST YEAR: LANDON COLLINS, S, GIANTS

6. Tom Brady, QB, Patriots
Statline: 4577 yards, 32 TDs, 8 INTs passing
My no. 1 player from last year dropped 5 spots to no. 6 this year. This may surprise some but I have this list fully planned out and the top 5 in my opinion just played better all year. At age 40 Brady still proved everyone wrong with another storybook season which did end in a surprising Super Bowl defeat but he also became the oldest player in NFL history in win league MVP. Brady was phenomenal in the regular season putting up an amazing statline. He lead the Pats to another 10+ win season and the Pats marched through the playoffs until the Eagles stunned them in the Super Bowl. Brady played amazing football throughout the playoffs and was pretty good also in the Super Bowl. It just blows my mind what he's doing at this age. He's not showing any signs of slowing down and the Pats were confident enough in him and his future to trade premier backups Jacoby Brissett and Jimmy Garopollo and Brady (at least this season) showed them it was the right move. I think Brady still has it and the Pats should have repeat success this season and Brady could bounce back to no. 1 next season. For the first time in his career the man has a new helmet, could that make him EVEN better?
NO. 6 LAST YEAR: KHALIL MACK, LB/DE, RAIDERS

Thanks for reading my part 1 of my annual top 10 players of the year list. What surprised you, what would you have done differently, who are your predictions for my top 5? Leave it all down in the comments below, I will respond.

Still Available All-Free Agent Team

Hi, I am making an All-Free agent team to show everyone who is still there in free agency and there are some gems left to be honest. Here it is:

QB: Trevone Boykin (assuming no team will pick up Colin Kaepernick)
The QB position might be the worst position group left which is surprising because there are so many playable QBs who offer some kind of depth. Boykin is still a young QB who showed some SUPER promising signs as a backup of the Seahawks. He was cut after some legal issues but in the future could be a very could NFL player.

RB1: Orleans Darkwa
It is still a bit of a surprise to me that he is un-signed because he had a nice season with the Giants last year putting together a few big games and showing he could be a nice fill in RB. I thought he would be like the first backup RB signed in FA but he is still available. Darkwa's career isn't over but it is boggling that he isn't signed. He's only 26.

RB2: Eddie Lacy
Lacy's stint in Seattle was a bust and he hit free agency with no leverage. Still he provides some potential in the FA market. Earlier on in his career, he was great in Green Bay and was rookie of the year at one point. Lacy is still pretty young and if he's put in a better running back situation than Seattle and given the right amount of carries he could still produce.

WR1: Dez Bryant
Bryant is the most sure bet of any player in this FA to get signed. He is a year or 2 removed from being a top receiver in the league, he's still young, and he was still pretty good last season. Bryant is a decent WR1 and could be an amazing WR2 for any team. He has been linked to the Browns for awhile which seems like where he will end up.

WR2: Jordan Matthews
While his numbers haven't been to impressive lately, Matthews is still a pretty good slot WR that can still play. Matthews was lost in a sea of many receivers on the Patriots and was released earlier this off-season. If he catches on with the right team he could be the next Adam Thielen slot WR breakout type player. Matthews career should not be over, he's only 26 and should have at least 3 more years in the league.

TE: Coby Fleener
When he signed with the Saints a season or 2 ago, Fleener was considered a top 10 TE in football and he was decent in New Orleans. He didn't play terrible but he didn't play as well as he did when he was with the Colts. The Saints cut the 29 year old this off-season due to some injury concerns after a week 12 concussion and also because Fleener wasn't living up to the big contract he was given. Fleener still has football left to play and gas left in the tank. If a team needs a tight end at all they should sign Fleener who I still think can rise back but to being a top 10 tight end again.

O-line (one player at each O-line spot):
Chris Clark, OT
Derek Newton, OT
Luke Joeckl, OG
Richie Incognito, OG
Tim Barnes, C

D-Lineman 1: Johnathan Hankins
The 26 year old former Giants and Colts d-lineman is somehow still a free agent. A season or 2 ago the Giants didn't want to pay the young stud DT so the Colts did but he wasn't great in his first year with the team so they let him go. Now only 26 and super talented, Hankins has yet to catch on with a team but is rumored to be working out with the Browns soon. Hankins still has a ton left in the tank and can still become one of the best at his position. A team should make a small risk by trying to sign him and will likely be rewarded like when the Seahawks took the risk on Dion Jordan last off-season and so far it has payed off.

D-Lineman 2: Nick Fairley
Fairley would be signed right now but he has a major injury concern. He was out for last season with heart problems and now teams don't want to take the risk on him like some teams didn't want to take the risk on talented Maurice Hurst in the draft. If a team does take a chance on Fairley and they do play him he could really end up being a nice pickup but its yet to be seen if a team is willing to take a chance on him.

LB1: Kevin Dodd
Aside from Dez Bryant, I think Dodd is the best player left in FA. A second round pick by the Titans just 2 seasons ago, Dodd didn't really live up to the hype and was cut by the Titans just 2 years in. If Dodd gets signed by a team that can put him in a great situation and play him he could end up being one of the best up and coming players in the league. I think Dodd will get a deal and a chance but as of now he is the 2nd best player left in FA in my opinion.

LB2: Lawrence Tmmons
While Timmons is 32 and on the decline he still put up some good numbers last season and could provide great vet leadership to young teams. Timmons will start losing his pretty good tackle numbers as the years go but he can still do it for now and give veteran leadership and I think bringing in Timmons would be a good idea for any team.

CB1: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
DRC was a household name just 2 seasons ago. He was amazing and even though he was getting old it didn't seem like he was slowing down. He had 6 interceptions and 21 passes defended and looked like a top 5 CB in the league. Then last season hit. DRC looked old and washed up and his stats weren't nearly as good. Still, he boasts vet leadership and he still shows glimpses of his old self. Many teams are going for him. So far we know the Seahawks, Chargers, and Redskins are among teams interested.

CB2: Delvin Breaux
If you ask me, Breaux is one of the best hidden gems left in FA. Still young and only played 2 seasons in the NFL, Breaux had an amazing 3 INT, 19 passes defended rookie year and then in year 2 was injured almost the whole season. Now having trouble passing physicals, Breaux is playing in the Canadian Football League at the moment but would leave for any NFL team that came calling. Breaux is a low risk, high reward potential player and I think he should be signed soon.

S1: Eric Reid
Reid would have for sure been signed by now. He is very young and put up some good numbers. But he was largely involved with the Colin Kaepernick flag kneeling incident and now teams don't want him. There is much more hope for Reid than Kap but its not looking great right now. The Titans were seriously considering signing Reid before signing other safety Kenny Vaccaro. I don't think Reid's NFL career is over whereas I do think Kaep's career is.

S2: Quentin Demps
In a not great safety market, other than contreversial S Eric Reid, Demps in my opinion is the next best safety on the market. 2 seasons ago Demps put up monster numbers. 6 interceptions and 9 passes defended in only 13 games. Demps looked like a godly safety but last season he only played 3 games due to injury which didn't let us see how he would do after his monster 2016 season. Now at 33 the market for Demps is slim but if there is going to be a team in need of a safety, Demps should be the first guy called.

K: Giorgio Tavvechio
Tavvechio filled in for Sebastian Janikowski on the Raiders last season and did a pretty good job. He is under 30 and could be an amazing option for any team in need of a kicker.

P: Brad Wing
A pretty good punter for the Giants, Wing was let go and now a free agent. Any team who needs a punter should target Wing who is only 27.

Thanks for reading.

Top 10 Defensive Rookie of the Year Candidates: Does Shaquem Griffin Make the Cut?

Hi, I just did my top 10 OROY candidates list and now its time for the DROY version.

1. Bradley Chubb, DE, Broncos:
This fit is perfect. For awhile it seemed like Chubb was going to a bad spot with the Cleveland Browns at 4 but when they surprisingly passed on the talented rusher the Broncos pounced on him at 5. Already a top 5 defense in the league, adding Chubb will be unfair. Chubb in the future will become the best player on the Broncos defense but for now he will have to just get started. Expect a double digit sack season year 1 and Chubb to be in the drivers seat for DROY.

2. Roquan Smith, LB, Bears:
Getting Roquan Smith was probably the best possible move the Bears could have made at pick 8. Smith was an amazing LB at Georgia and was maybe the best defender in the nation in some peoples opinions. Smith will start right away and he could be a force from week 1. The Bears have a defense that will surprise people with how good it will actually be. Smith seems to already be top 3 if not the best defensive player on this team. Smith with a good start to the season could bump Chubb for the top spot on this list.

3. Leighton Vander-Esch, LB, Cowboys:
Leading up to the draft, Vander-Esch's draft stock was rising heavily and the Cowboys got him in the mid/late first round which is a major steal. Esch should start right out of the gate and in the Cowboys defense where linebackers are more major than other defenses Vander Esch should be a star. He is a very unique player who I think can play the position at a super high level for years. This was a nice pick by the Cowboys who now that I think about it actually had a great draft.

4. Denzel Ward, CB, Browns:
It was a super surprising moment when the Browns passed on Bradley Chubb to take a player who is considered very small for his position and not even the best defensive player on the board at that time. Ward was the best CB in this draft but the one problem is that he is undersized for his position. If he is a good player it won't matter but if size becomes an issue and he can't play his position at the elite level, many will be disappointed. I think he has a great shot at being good as he could be the CB1 on the Browns by the end of the season. If he racks up a lot of interceptions like last years DROY Marshon Lattimore, Ward could become a top candidate in this race. We will have to see how his size affects his game in the NFL.

5. Vita Vea, DT, Buccaneers:
I was sad that my Seahawks were out of the running to draft Vea when he was drafted earlier on in the first round by the Bucs but what a heck of a pick by them. Vea was a monster prospect with huge size but amazing speed for that size. Vea has the physical skill set to be a top 5 defensive player in this league and while I think he may not be AMAZING in year 1, there is a good chance he could breakout and have an insane season. If Vea plays to his full potential in year 1 he will be the DROY. I will say that bold of a statement because of how talented Vea is.

6. Rasheem Green, DE, Seahawks:
When the Seahawks picked Green I loved it. This pick can be a huge steal. With injury concerns dropping his draft stock, the Seahawks got him in the 3rd round to help replace Michael Bennett. Green could start on the D-line week 1. Green has great talent and potential but with the injury concerns at times scared some teams away. In his preseason debut, Green had 2 sacks. Thats an amazing first game that left me super confident about Green's season. Watch out for a sleeper pick at DROY.

7. Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Bills:
The Bills got Edmunds in the mid first round which was later than he should have picked. He was a top 10 player in the draft talent wise. Edmunds is ultra athletic and he is a very physical player. He will start for the Bills who have only a few good defensive players. Edmunds could become the face of the Bills defense and eventually the face of the TEAM. Edmunds has the physical skills to be the DROY, it will be fun to see how good of stats he can rack up in year 1.

8. Maurice Hurst, DT, Raiders:
The Raiders possibly got the biggest steal of the draft. Some scouts say he is the best d-lineman they have ever seen coming out of college and others barely ever talk about him. The reason he wasn't a first or second round pick was because of a MAJOR injury concern. Hurst has a heart condition and so some teams didn't want to play him and put him at risk for a life threatening injury. The Raiders have taken the chance and are probably going to play him a lot. If the heart isn't an issue, Hurst will be the steal of the draft and could EASILY win DROY. We will have to see what happens with Hurst this season.

9. Derwin James, DB, Chargers:
James is considered by some the best pick of the first round. I don't agree but I do think the Chargers made a GOOD pick by taking him. James can play all over the place in the defensive backfield. They could line him up anywhere from RB to WR to TE and he could play well. Inserted into a defense with many elite players, James will have great talent around him to help him learn and he could become the next Earl Thomas in the league.

10. Shaquem Griffin, LB, Seahawks:
I had to get him on the list. AGAIN, Griffin is NOT a feel good story. The man with one hand was ultra productive in college and was insane in his preseason debut with 5+ tackles. Griffin showed he can have a more significant role than some thought and could become a starter by the time the season is over. I think it will be tough for him to win DROY because he will have to put up great stats but if preseason week 1 could tell you anything, he could be capable of putting up those needed stats.

Just Missed: Raashan Evanss/LB/Titans, Minkah Fitzpatrick/DB/Dolphins, Mike Hughes/CB/Vikings, Marcus Davenport/DE/Saints

Top 10 Offensive Rookie of the Year Candidates, Barkley...then who?

Hi, today I am going to be talking about my top 10 rookies who I think have the best chances at winning OROY. (Derrius Guice would have been no. 2 on this list had he not torn his ACL in preseason week 1).

1. Saquon Barkley, RB, Giants:
This is a no brainer at 1. Everyone has Barkley atop their list for possible offensive rookie of the year candidates. Barkley is the best, better than Leonard Fournette, RB coming out of college we've seen in awhile. Barkley balled at Penn State and he has the body skill set to be the best player in the NFL. Barkley also has amazing talent around him. If Barkley busts I will be the most surprised because he is the most non-bust material we have seen. A rookie has lead the league in rushing yards the last team seasons in Zeke Elliott and Kareem Hunt, Barkley is the best bet to continue the feat yet.

2. Rashaad Penny, RB, Seahawks:
Penny was a surprise that he rose to the first round. In training camp he is involved in a big battle with Chris Carson but I think he will beat him out. Penny has a great skillset and to be paired with Russell Wilson he should have an amazing rookie year. Penny lead the nation in yards last season so expect him to be out there with 1000+ total yards in year 1.

3. Sony Michel, RB, Patriots:
Michel could be the Pats best RB in awhile. The Pats spent one of their first round picks on the productive RB out of Georgia. The Pats do like to have a mix of pretty good RB's and it proves to work pretty well. Rex Burkhead had an amazing year last season in this multiple RB system. I think Michel has the chance to be the main player in the mix. Getting the bulk of the carries along with many reception opportunities. Playing with the Pats and Tom Brady, anything can happen. Michel could become elite in year 1 playing next to Brady. He will be in the discussion.

4. Ronald Jones III, RB, Buccaneers:
Jones was a steal where he was drafted in my opinion. With the Bucs looking like they are going into a bad year, with their starting QB Jameis Winston suspended 3 games and not too much talent all around, the Bucs will be relying on the talent Rojo to carry the offense. The first 3 games could be his best with backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick relying on Jones to carry the ball and get receptions out of the backfield. Fitz isn't a great QB and so it won't be surprising if he is constantly giving the ball off to Jones. Jones could be the next Alvin Kamara. If he has a slow start to the season, don't count him out. It was the same thing with Kamara who heated up after the first quarter of the season.

5. Calvin Ridley, WR, Falcons:
I loved this pick by the Falcons. Picking up the talented no. 1 receiver in this draft in the late 20's of the first round was a great move. The Falcons already have an elite offense with 1-year removed from an MVP season QB Matt Ryan, elite RB and WR duo in Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones and a good o-line. Add in the explosive Ridley who was a nightmare in college and this offense could be the very best in the league. I think Ridley will get a lot of plays when no. 1 corners are completely focused on shutting down Julio Jones. I think Calvin Ridley is the Juju-Smith of this season. Antonio Brown and Juju Smith may be the best WR duo in the league right now, but Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley could be coming up from behind on them as Ridley is a better receiver than Juju in my opinion.

6. DJ Moore, WR, Panthers:
Moore was the first receiver taken in the draft. I know Cam Newton has fallen off in recent years but he is still a great QB that Moore should be able to play well with. There aren't many great receivers on the Panthers except Devin Funchess who at best is probably a little better than Stefon Diggs. Moore will get a lot of targets in his rookie season and at some point could become the WR1 over Funchess. In a mediocre-ly talented offense, Moore could be the star and could become Cam Newton's favorite target. They picked him in the first round for a reason, it should show and he could be in the race for OROY.

7. Michael Gallup, WR, Cowboys:
Gallup is getting a ton of pre-season hype. With Dez Bryant gone he could quickly become the WR1 on the Cowboys. Dak Prescott is right there in the elite QB discussion and with a bounceback year 3 could be a top 5/10 QB again. Gallup has shown some major talent and he likely won't start the season as the WR1 and so he won't always get the CB1's on him which will be major for him to start out his career. Gallup can be the breakout steal player of this draft, believe me.

8. Antonio Callaway, WR, Browns:
With a lot of uncertainty at the WR position for the Browns, Callaway could be the breakout answer. Jarvis Landry is an elite WR1 locked in for the Browns but Josh Gordon is away at some kind of rehab again and no one knows exactly when he is coming back. Former first round pick WR Corey Coleman was traded to the Bills this week. There have been rumors about Dez Bryant joining the Browns but nothing has seemed to actually happen with that. Callaway with all of this uncertainty could become the early season WR2. Callaway was possibly the best receiver in this draft but wasn't an early round draft pick because of his legal issues. Without those, he could have beem a top 20 pick in the draft. The talent is there so it shouldn't be a major surprise if he becomes a great receiver in year 1 and finds his way into the ROY discussion. Did you see him in preseason week 1? He was amazing!

9. Sam Darnold, QB, Jets:
It looks as if Darnold could be the week 1 starter in NY. Originally it was thought that Darnold would be a backup most of his rookie year learning behind Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown. As camp as pressed on and we've heard from the Jets and seen Darnold practice it is looking like he will be the week 1 starter. Darnold had probably one of the best upsides from a QB in the draft, if he plays the whole season and can put together a few more wins than the Jets had last season along with a nice statline since he's a QB he could be in the drivers seat of the OROY discussion.

10. Hayden Hurst, TE, Ravens:
The Ravens have a pretty talentless offense. Michael Crabtree is their WR1, their RB1 is pretty unproven in Alex Collins, their O-line is decent with a few gems, and their current starting QB Joe Flacco should be a backup. Hurst could easily break out as the most talented player on the offense and get many targets from Flacco and eventually LAMAR JACKSON! Hurst could be the Evan Engram of last season and I expect him to play a big role in the Ravens offense this season. He could find his way into the ROY discussion.

Just missed: Lamar Jackson/QB/Ravens, Baker Mayfield/QB/Browns, Quenton Nelson/OL/Colts
