Hi, here is my weekly winners of the week post. Here it is:
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Todd Gurley, RB, Rams
Statline: 118 yards rushing, 158 yards, 2 TDs receiving, 276 all purpose yards
For the 2nd straight week, Todd Gurley is my blogs offensive player of the week. Todd Gurley builds on his amazing week last week with another insane week that could be even better. Gurley helped lead the Rams to a close win over the Titans that clinched them the NFC West divisional crown. Gurley the last few weeks has been just insane. He is racking up tons of yards receiving and rushing and many many TDs. Gurley in the last 2 weeks has not only entered the MVP race, but he is winning it right now. If I were to vote today for who wins MVP it would be Gurley. Gurley is also 222 yards away from becoming the 3rd player in NFL history to have at least 1000 yards rushing and 1000 yards receiving. Gurley would need that much in the last week of the season but still coming close at all is a huge accomplishment in a league where its becoming harder and harder to break onto the list. Gurley is not only the biggest bounce back player, he's looking like he's going to break the QB streak and become one of the only RBs to win MVP. Gurley has lead his Rams to this amazing season and I don't see this dominance coming to an end any time soon. Gurley for the 2nd week in a row is the blogs Offensive Player of the Week!
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mike Hilton, CB, Steelers
Statline: 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble
I have never talked about rookie CB Mike Hilton once before on my blog, but now he is the defensive player of the week. Hilton had a great game recording 3 sacks and a forced fumble. The reason this game was so great is 3 sacks is really good for any player in one game, but for a CB to do it its rare and Hilton is the first CB in NFL history to record 3+ sacks in a game. Hilton had a record breaking performance. 3 sacks is great for any player and so its great to see a CB finally do it. Adding in a forced fumble also is amazing. Hilton all around had an amazing game and he sweeps up week 16's defensive player of the week on my blog!
TEAM OF THE WEEK: San Fransisco 49ers (5-10)
Final Score: 49ers 44, Jaguars 33
After such an embarrassing start to the season, the Niners are now looking like the hottest team in football and potential deep playoff contenders for next season. The Niners really were having a bad season to start off, Brian Hoyer played badly, then rookie C.J. Beathard played badly and they really just didn't know what to do. Then right at the trade deadline the Niners pulled off a blockbuster deal to get Pats QB Jimmy Garopollo. They waited 2 weeks, then started him and since then, they've been on a roll. Garopollo is undefeated as a starter for the 49ers. This week was their real test, playing a hot Jaguars team boasting the best D in the league. It didn't matter, the Niners tore them to shreds and lit up their defense. Jimmy Garopollo played so well as did the rest of the offense. The defense let up a lot of points but not enough for the Niners to forget about their amazing 44 points they scored to kill the Jags. What a late season comeback the Niners have had and I expect them to be big playoff contenders next season. The Niners amazing game wins them team of the week on my blog!
