Hi, I was thinking of NFL draft since we are getting close to that time and I thought that I would do a draft first round re-do of the 2014 NFL draft because it is one of the most stacked draft classes we have seen lately. Here it is:
overall: Texans take Derek Carr, QB (originally taken rd. 2, 36th overall) instead of DE Jadeveon Clowney: Derek Carr has proven to become an elite QB in the league and the Texans have been on the lookout for a franchise QB forever.
overall: Rams take Jimmy Garopollo, QB (originally taken rd. 2, 62nd overall) instead of OT Greg Robinson: Garopollo hasn't played much but looks like a future franchise QB which the Rams need so badly if they want to win a great division.
overall: Jaguars take Teddy Bridgewater, QB (originally taken rd. 1, 32nd overall) instead of QB Blake Bortles: Bortles doesn't look like the QB of the future and Bridgewater may not be either but looks like he may have a great future or bust.
overall: Bills take Odell Beckham, WR (originally taken rd. 1, 12th overall) instead of WR Sammy Watkins: The Bills really need a wide receiver and Odell Beckham has turned into a top 3 receiver in the league and by far the best receiver in this class.
overall: Raiders take Khalil Mack, LB (SAME): Mack won Defensive Player of the Year last year, why would they pick anyone different.
overall: Falcons take Aaron Donald, DT (originally taken rd. 1, 13th overall) instead of OT Jake Matthews: Donald has won defensive rookie of the year and has been one of the best defensive players in the league. Matthews hasn't done much.
overall: Buccaneers take Mike Evans, WR (SAME): Evans has turned into an elite WR1 and the Bucs would take him again and again. He is the teams future at receiver.
overall: Browns take Brandin Cooks, WR (orginally taken rd. 1, 20th overall) instead of CB Justin Gilbert: The Browns have almost no stars at receiver and Cooks has a chance to become elite. The Browns take him here for sure. The speedster could be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Browns.
overall: Vikings take Anthony Barr, LB (SAME): Barr has turned into a pro bowler for this team and he is a key part of the defense in Minnesota.
overall: Lions take Zack Martin, OT (originally taken rd. 1, 16th overall): instead of TE Eric Ebron Eric Ebron was a huge huge bust for the Lions while Zack Martin has become arguably the best lineman in football.
overall: Titans take Taylor Lewan, OT (SAME): Lewan has become a pro bowler for the Titans and has really been a cornerstone on this O-line. The Titans were spot on with this pick.
overall: Giants take Jarvis Landry, WR (originally taken rd. 2, 63rd overall) instead of WR Odell Beckham: Even though the team will be sad that Beckham was taken by the Bills 4th in this re-do, Jarvis Landry is Odell's best friend and they are both amazing at one handed grabs and he is also a pro bowler. The Giants can't be too sad about taking Landry.
overall: Rams take Kelvin Benjamin, WR (originally taken rd. 1, 28th overall) instead of DT Aaron Donald: Sadly their former pick here Aaron Donald will be gone so the team will go with a young receiver in Kelvin Benjamin to pair with QB Teddy Bridgewater they took earlier in this draft.
overall: Bears take Jason Verrett, CB (originally taken rd. 1, 25th overall) instead of CB Kyle Fuller: Fuller has been an un-productive bust while Verrett is the best corner in this draft class, they will make sure to take the pro bowl corner over Fuller.
overall: Steelers take Ryan Shazier, MLB (SAME): Shazier has proved to be a key part of this defense and they would make sure not to lose their star LB.
overall: Cowboys take Bradley Robey, CB (originally taken rd. 1, 31st overall) instead of OT Zack Martin: The Cowboys will be sad to see their amazing OT gone but with a huge need of a CB, the Cowboys will take young building block Bradley Robey who has looked good recently.
Thanks for reading and I will have part 2 of my 2014 NFL draft first round re-do probably tomorrow.
