Here it is:
Sorry Texans and Broncos, Romo is out of the question. It was announced this morning that the most anticipated free agent on the market has decided to retire. This rests many rumors about Romo going places. Tony Romo was never given a fair shot to test the free agent market as the Cowboys held on to him but it was announced that the Cowboys were deciding to release Romo today and that is when Romo made his choice. He decided to walk away from playing but his football days aren't over. Romo has gotten the job to replace lead anaylst Phill Simms from CBS Sports and he will help
broadcast with Jim Nantz up in the booth every game. This is a huge deal. Everyone wanted to see where Romo would go and if he would become a quality starting QB again. This must be the most painful for the Texans. The team let several great players walk in free agency, got rid of their starting QB, just so they would have enough CAP room space to aquire Romo and his huge salary. Now they must press on with the unknown in QB Tom Savage who hasn't played enough for the Texans to know if he is good enough to lead their playoff budding team. The Broncos were also lead contenders to take Romo even though they have a great QB situation. Trevor Siemian looked really really good at times last season and maybe not this year but next year, 2016 first round pick Paxton Lynch may be ready to play. He is their plan for the future. Tony Romo walks away from the game with 34,183 passing yards, 248 TDs, and 117 interceptions. Romo's career was really ruined by injuries. He may have still been the Cowboys starting QB today if injuries didn't destroy the 2nd half of his lengthy Cowboys career. The once undrafted free agent may not make the hall of fame. It'll be tough because he was always decent to great but never the best QB in the league. He also never won a Super Bowl. I personally think Romo will make the Hall of Fame because when everyone is voting and they see Romo's name, they will remember clearly how much he did for his team and how exciting his career was. On NFL.com when the voting starts when Romo's year comes, he will have my vote. Now lets talk about where the Texans will go from here.
The Texans really were the no. 1 perfect option for Romo. They had the money space for him, they have a great young offense lead by 2 young receivers in DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller and a young running back Lamar Miller. The Texans were relying on Romo to come available so the team could get him but the time never came and now the Texans off-season looks like a huge disaster. Still they have hope. One of the most interesting draft prospects Patrick Mahomes should still be available when the Texans have the 25th pick in this years draft. Mahomes looks like he could have potential to end up becoming one of the best QBs in the NFL. If the Texans take him he can go right into the lineup and play but if they take him he could also sit for a year and learn and then come in and play. If I were a team that needed a QB I would take Mahomes because even though he is a bit risky, he looks like the risk could payoff and he could end up being a future hall of famer.
This move makes the off-season very interesting and we will have to see what goes down especially with the Texans.
