Taking a Look at Patrick Mahomes

Hi, with the draft inching even closer, one of the most interesting prospects in the draft coming up is QB Patrick Mahomes. Some quick news that 49ers sign RB Tim Hightower and Vikings sign QB Case Keenum. Also RB Adrian Peterson is scheduled to workout for the Patriots this week.
I also have a new mock draft: http://walterfootball.com/mocks/publishedmock/60831/
 Here it is:

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech:
Mahomes is on the verge of being a first round pick and his unique skills make him interesting. I'm going to talk about Mahomes. Mahomes could be a first round pick, he even has a tiny tiny chance to be the no. 1 pick in the draft but that would have to be if the Browns passed on Myles Garrett and then passed on the other 3 good QBs in the draft. Still Mahomes does have a chance to show that he is the best QB in the draft when he gets to the NFL. He will either be a huge bust or a huge deal that was amazing. He is unique. Sometimes coaching unique players can be hard and sometimes NFL teams want to go with the more generic QBs like Mitch Trubisky but we all know that taking risks sometimes pays off. Years ago when the 49ers selected QB Alex Smith with the 1st pick it was him or Aaron Rodgers, the future hall of fame lock but they went with Smith because he was a more average QB that looked regular while Rodgers had more flaws. Smith didn't last long in San Fran, the team quickly got rid of the bust. Mahomes could end up being the bargain of the draft. He is a gunslinger which can be good but also sometimes bad. We will look at his strengths: He can take tough hits, he is very mobile and athletic which is something you want in your QB these days. He can pick up extra yards on the ground. He is also a great leader and a hard worker. He seems pretty good. He does have his weaknesses though. He can overthrow balls. He will need to use different plays because NFL runs a lot of plays he didn't run in college. Needs to learn how to be more comfortable under center than in shotgun. That may be his biggest issue. NFL scouts are talking a lot about that one. Those are some of his strengths and weaknesses but overall he looks
really good. Now lets talk about draft position.
Mahomes is a projected to be a late 1st round-an early 2nd round pick. Here are some spots I think he could go:
1. (1st round) 25 overall to the Texans, this could be a good pick for the Texans. They have no one at QB and who knows if they will even be able to get Tony Romo. Mahomes would fit in with this team and if he isn't a bust like most Texan QBs, he will be a great young QB that the team can build this young franchise around
2. (1st round) 27th overall to the Chiefs, even though Alex Smith is playing well, the team needs a good backup and someone who can step in really soon to play full-time. Andy Reid is a great coach for QBs and he loves drafting QBs so it wouldn't be too surprising to see him get picked here
3. (1st round) 32nd overall to the Saints, the Saints need to think about life after Drew Brees and with probably no one amazing left in the first round, the Saints could snag their QB of the future with the last pick in the first round. This could workout
4.  (2nd round) 34th overall to the 49ers, this would be one of the best picks in the draft. He could come in immediatly and start for this young offense and I think the 49ers can correct their mistake of the past in taking the less flawed QB years ago by taking Mahomes here.

Thanks for reading about this interesting draft prospect.
