Hi, with the draft getting super super close I will post about the biggest draft steal in the last few drafts. We all know draft steals are a huge part of the season, you never know who is going to turn out amazing. Also its not always going to be the best player but its going to be the best player who was picked later in the draft. Here it is:
2016:
Dak Prescott, QB, Cowboys (rd. 4, 135th ovr)
Prescott may be one of the best draft steals we have ever seen. EVER! This years rookie of the year was one of the best storylines. So many teams passed on him because he wasn't perfect or didn't look "pro ready" but the once 3rd string QB ended up becoming the Cowboys starting QB all season leading them to a 1st seed season. Hands down best steal of the year.
2015:
David Johnson, RB, Cardinals (rd. 3, 86th ovr)
WOW! This season David Johnson played out of his mind. He was also decent in his rookie year but just wow. Johnson rushed for 1200 yards and has 20 TDs, 16 rushing, 4 receiving. Johnson is probably the best running back in football. David Johnson was a huge steal and I'm not sure how no one saw him coming but boom, Johnson is the deadliest RB in football. He can't go down.
2014:
Derek Carr, QB, Raiders (rd. 2, 36th ovr)
Okay, this wasn't very late in the draft but anyone who isn't a first round pick who ends up amazing can be considered a huge steal. Carr is one of the best QBs in the league and there were 3 QBs taken in first round and they all are only decent right now but Carr is elite. He had an MVP candidate season and Carr will be a force for years and years to come. What a steal this was.
2013:
Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs (rd. 3, 63rd ovr)
Kelce was a huge steal. This seasons top tight end was a 3rd round pick but has played like a 1st overall. Kelce is one of the cornerstones of the Chiefs and QB Alex Smith has hooked up well with Kelce throwing great passes for the talent tight end to catch. I can't even believe how this guy was still open in the 3rd round. Its crazy.
2012:
Russell Wilson, QB, Seahawks (rd. 3, 75th ovr)
I can't even believe this. Russell Wilson, an elite QB, super bowl champ, pro bowl MVP and franchise player was open in the 3rd round. Thats right. Russell Wilson took a horrible, average Seahawks team and turned it into a Super Bowl champ in just 2 seasons. Wilson is a machine, he never gets hurt, and he is a great runner and passer. The dual threat QB is one of the greatest draft steals we've seen.
2011:
Richard Sherman, CB, Seahawks (rd. 5, 154th ovr)
The best cornerback in the league for years and years was a fifth round pick! Thats not real! Thats insane. Sherman was one of the best draft steals as he has become one of the best cornerbacks in football and has lead this Seahawks legion of boom for the last few seasons. Sure, that same year Patrick Peterson was a top 10 pick, but if the Cardinals knew what everyone knew now, Sherman would have been picked there, not Peterson.
2010:
Antonio Brown, WR, Steelers (rd. 5, 195th ovr)
Who knew that the best receiver in the league would be stashed away in the 5th round. Well, the Steelers probably didn't even think so. This was a hard choice as there were also stars Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, and Kam Chancellor but Antonio Brown has been the best but its crazy how the best receiver in the league can come from the 5th round.
Thanks for reading about some of the best draft steals from the past few years and who will be the best draft steal this year? We will find out!!!
